No till planting of seeds

No till planting

Lots of activity on the farm today. It took all morning to plant seeds in the front paddock, and mid afternoon they started on an even bigger paddock. No till is a good idea because it conserves the moisture. The old way was to plough the paddock first which opened up the soil to sun and wind and really dried it out. Killed the weeds of course. With no till they have to spray to kill the weeds off. In this picture the red box behind the tractor has the seeds in it, and the tyres at the back flatten the soil down after the seeds have been dropped into grooves in the soil. I’m guessing they are planting oats because they always do. I’m just pleased that we will soon have a green paddock to look at.
