Pond progress

We got all this done in an afternoon and an evening.

First we had to go into town to buy the sand … the concrete and garden supply shop was open but no one was there, so, after wondering around a bit to have a look at what they had, I rang the mobile number on the sign at the gate, and the fellow was home having lunch. So trusting! We had to wait a little while so we did some shopping, had a salad sandwich at the bakery, and a cup of coffee, and then went to get the sand.

The pictures tell the rest of the story. We spread a layer of sand so there would be no risk of stones or sticks putting holes in the plastic liner. Then the liner, then the water: 2 hoses from 2 water tanks, certainly took a long time even though it’s not very deep. It was a really pleasant warm evening, tried to rain every now and again. I couldn’t resist taking my boots off and walking into the water. It was deliciously cool and fresh. While I was there I tried to even out some of the creases in the plastic.

The next stage of the project will be to make it blend into the environment with more rocks and plants. That will be great fun!
