Chinese festival at Nundle

Chinese dragon at the Chinese festival, Nundle

I really was hoping there would be lots of Chinese people at the festival so that I might find someone to practise Mandarin with, but sadly not. Apparently there were a lot of Chinese in the town once upon a time, and their main occupation was mining gold, or panning for it. None of their descendants are there now, but the town still celebrates the old times. There were a lot of people there for the festival though, and the weather was beautiful.
The Chinese dragon was the highlight. It was performed by the Sydney based Australian Yau Mun Chinese Martial Arts Association members. There was a long skinny dragon and 2 lions. They were very good, but apart from them, a noodle stand and a display of Chinese instruments, there wasn’t much else Chinese.
I enjoyed the company of J and his cousins, and we had a very nice lunch in the local pub!
