A lot of the streets are like this. Many are one way, but the others have a priority, so that one way has to always give way. They’re sign posted by an image of 2 cars, one is red and the other is black .. or 2 arrows, big black and small red .. red direction has to give way.
Everywhere is very clean, and footpaths like this have been recently fixed up.

this is beautiful Carmel, a time when town planners did not have to consider the car..
Wow… a beautiful street view. I think the hand rails at the side are to stop people parking.
Just read your comment Barb. I agree, hardly room for cars at all. Maybe they were built without regard for the horse and cart? Maybe they were built for poor people who only walked to the market.
It felt as if the roads had been done up recently, like new paving, the rails were new, but so tastfully done, the only way to tell was that there was no decay. There are signs of weathering on everything old. So we notice the occasional patch .. always a perfect match for the original.
