Red worms in compost bin

I like having a compost bin in the garden. I use an anaerobic bin because it keeps the rodents out, and the flies. It is neat. It takes a long time for food scrapes to decompose, but I really don’t care! It is convenient too, and very interesting. Each time I lift the lid there is something different. Sometimes there is a lot of worms! I think that they come there when they think it is going to rain. If this is so, then are they are using intelligence!? They seem to be intent on getting up high above the ground, and in this bin they aren’t threatened by birds or anything that will eat them.
