Now Read This is an English Literacy programme primarily for adults. It is a literacy programme that was originally developed in the late 1950's in New South Wales, Australia, by an ingenious school teacher. This teacher, G. W. Falkenmire, went on to be an inspector in one of the largest school education systems in the world. He was also head of the Migrant Education Service and Adult Literacy in New South Wales, before retiring in the 1970s.

Since then the same programme has been in constant use by many institutions around the state.

Now Read This existed in the form of a few books, one for the student and one for the tutor. It has had 3 revisions to date.

This is the first digital version, and it has been greatly extended in content. Spingey is the character that GW Falkenmire originally invented to illustrate his notes and today he is alive and well, and still the star of the programme. He is the providor of light relief in what is a very comprehensive reading course.

Now Read This is subtitled:

Learn to Read in Ten Difficult Lessons.

The programme has a set of preliminary lessons that introduce the alphabet to the learner. They learn to read and pronounce the letters. Later they learn to write them, both lower case letters and upper case letters. The writing programme is called Write Now.

The main part of the the programme consists of 10 lessons that cover all aspects of reading the English language.

Every topic in the course is supported by extensive tutor notes.

TUTORS

It is assumed that the learners will have someone to help them. The tutor notes are aimed at helpers of any reading ability level because it is often a family member or friend of the learner that is helping them to learn to read.

Now Read This

Now Read This is currently in production as a complete learning programme. In its finished form, it will have in-built tests and student tracking software to record the progress of its users.

As the producers of this programme we are releasing individual segments that can be of use to English literacy students and to tutors.

Free Samples

Each segment is an independent movie that can be used in any situation where there is a computer. A digital projector allows the movie to be displayed to a group of people.

Each free movie has an obvious link to the Now Read This Web site.

Use these free movies to test your system.

Purchased Movies

Each purchased movie has only a very insignificant link to the Now Read This Web site, which will certainly not distract the users.

After testing the free movie, purchasing a copy of it will make the tutor's teaching more professional and will certainly aid us in the development of the finished programme.
